Sport, charity and art all in a single event: Corri la Vita 2010 will get under way on 26 September in Piazza della Signoria. Established with the aim of fundraising for public healthcare structures specialised in rehabilitation therapies, the charity run is organised in partnership with Lilt Firenze and Lega Italiana per la Lotta contro i Tumori. Athletes and supporters will take on two different routes in terms of length and difficulty. There will be a 12-K competitive race and a 5.7 km walk for families, both of which pass through the historic centre and the Oltrarno area in an artistic route of gardens, churches, palaces and museums. The Florentine museums will all be open on this special occasion, so the church and crypt of S.Stefano al Ponte, the Galileo gallery at Museo della Specola, the Natural History Museum and the Boboli Gardens, in all its splendour, will be open. The organising committee also hopes that 20,000 people will attend this year, given the growing trend of the last editions of the race. A leading Florentine fashion house has created the 2010 official t-shirt, which will be especially loved by locals given that it’s purple. Amongst the structures supporting the events are Lilt Firenze Onlus and File Oltre il Ponte - for rehabilitation and assistance to cancer patients - Azienda Ospedaliera-Universitaria di Careggi - to purchase a new digital mammogram machine - and Vito Distante Project in Breast Cancer Clinical Research - to train new doctors. Registration will be open as from 1 September 2010. This year you’ll also be able to register online at www.boxol.it(Portions of this article first appeared in "Toscana & Chianti News")
