Between Pisa and Lucca: Excursions in the Park

The Migliarino-San Rossore-Massaciùccoli Park, a protected area since 1979, divides the provinces of Lucca and Pisa, between land and water.
It includes the pine forests of San Rossore, Migliarino, Tombolo, the “macchia Lucchese” and the Massaciùccoli Lake.
The overall park surface is about 24 000 hectares of alluvial lowland extending from the meridional part of Viareggio in the north to the Navicelli canals in the south and in-between there is the large Coltano estate.

In the San Rossore estate it’s possible to go on excursions by foot, with the bike, horseback riding, with coaches or buses (for information call the visitors centre of the park: tel. 050 530101). Boats to visit the Massaciùccoli Lake are leaving from Viareggio and Torre del Lago. The WWF organize guided tours and the LIPU organizes bird watching in the “Macchia Lucchese” area. The Migliarino estate offers various pre-arranged itineraries.
