A different tour to discover nature: we suggest a visit of the Zoological Gardens of Pistoia. On the initiative of Raffaello Galardini, this zoo was inaugurated in1970. ItÃs surrounded by the beautiful hills of Pistoia, very close to the town; the motorway makes it easy to reach it from anywhere in Tuscany.
It has an area of 75,000 square metres housing in thick and well-tended vegetation over 600 animals, of which 65 species are mammals, 40 birds and 30 reptiles.
The stately Jaguar, mighty Polar Bear, agile RothschildÃs Giraffe, big reticular Python, and rare Lemur of Madagascar are some of the animals you can admire in the Zoological Gardens of Pistoia. The management intends to make it a centre of national relevance for preserving dying species and naturalistic-environmental education.A day spent in the Zoological Gardens of Pistoia and its park is certainly a good day and a unique way to get closer to the world of animals.
