Luigi Cremona, the popular journalist and brains behind food and wine events, now also a strict critic on the Rai Uno programme La prova del cuoco, has won the 20th edition of the Guido Tarlati Prize, created and organised by the Arezzo Chefs’ Association. The prize, which was inspired by the Arezzo-born bishop of the same name who lived at the end of the 14th century, was established in 1991 to pay tribute to someone in the world of food and wine who contributed towards promoting the typical cuisine of the lands of Arezzo, in Italy and worldwide, regardless of whether it’s a journalist, writer, television presenter, political or institutional figure, or chef in recognition of their merit. Rome-born Luigi Cremona is a mechanical engineer with two great loves: travelling and gastronomy. The former has resulted in him travelling the world, from Alaska to Korea, whereas the latter has been fed by his journeys and has continued in the discovery of food products. In the world of journalism his name is also extremely famous given that he has collaborated for year with leading national trade publications.
Some Arezzo-based chefs were also rewarded during the final gala night: for the senior category (those who have been working in the profession for more than 20 years), the prize went to Lea Quazzeroni and Nella Meozzi of the restaurantIl Fiorentino in Sansepolcro and to Renata Valentini of Lodovichi Ricevimenti. Best chef in the province of Arezzo went to Donatella Neri of the restaurant Antica Fonte in Arezzo, who stood out in particular due to her expert use of top-quality traditional local products.(Portions of this article first appeared in "Toscana & Chianti News")
